‘entomarium extinct’ appreciates moments in nature. It questions the interaction between man and nature and focuses on the loss of biodiversity.
‘entomarium extinct’ is a new project for @victorhuntgallery . Its now on show in our exhibition “naturphilia” - a show in collaboration with @schlosshollenegg on the occasion of @viennadesignweek 2020. Join us tonight for our opening from 17:00 - 20:00
Simple, contemporary glass bells form the main component of these illuminated objects. Used individually as table lamps, or together as wall chandeliers, the bells are safe settings for hand-fabricated insects of various extinct species. Seen from a distance, the insects appear quiet and calm. However, as soon as one approach the object, the glass bells light up and the insects start swirling around, flying inside the glass vessels. They gently touch the glass, which in turn creates a soundscape. The project allows the extinct insects to seemingly come back to life in order to be seen and thus draws attention to the loss of wild nature and its habitants.
